During my time on the Amalfi Coast on spring break, I had a chance to spend the day on the wonderful island of Capri. Something that Capri is world famous for are their custom made leather sandals, made popular after Jackie Kennedy Onassis picked up a pair during her trip there.
While doing my research on Capri before leaving, I discovered this beautiful tradition and became very set on experiencing this for myself! When I got to the top of Capri (AnaCapri) I found a beautiful sandal store and was greeted by a wonderful older woman who explained the process to me. I chose my style of sandal from countless beautiful designs and eventually decided on a simple pair of strappy sandals adorned with green jewels.
The sandal maker then measured my foot on a pre made sole and created the straps to fit my foot perfectly. This was the best part for me because due to my high arch, my feet usually don’t fit into the thin straps on pre-made sandals. I tried them on a few times until the finishing adjustments were made to make sure the shoes fit my foot perfectly.
The shoe maker and sales woman were so helpful and kind and made the experience special and unique. I am so happy with how my sandals turned out and I think it was an experience that was worth paying a bit more for. I’m so glad I treated myself to these sandals and you can find me feeling very Jackie O as I sport them this summer!
