15 Minutes, 8 Products, 1 Face: My Simple Makeup Routine

It’s a very big day for me if I’m wearing makeup. I’m either doing something important or I’m seeing someone super important and that’s about it. Most of the time I try to embrace the bare-face-life – freckles and blemishes and all. When a day does eventually roll around where a beat face is needed, I try to keep my makeup routine as simple as possible. I go for more of a natural, low coverage glowy look, and its taken me awhile to find the perfect products to create my classic look. Here’s a look at the 8 products I use in my simple “everyday” makeup routine:

Primer:

After I properly cleanse and moisturize my face (here’s a peek at my skin care regimen if you haven’t seen that) I start off my makeup with a good primer. I’ve searched high and low for a primer that blurs and fills pores, while also keeping my skin hydrated and fresh. I recently stumbled across the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Blur Primer after rekindling my love for the YSL makeup line. This primer not only blurs and smooths my skin, but it keeps me hydrated and glowy thanks to the tiny flecks of gold in the primer.

Foundation:

I follow my primer with a very moisturizing foundation. I alternate between three foundations, but right now I’m using the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer for the summer months. It’s the perfect color, coverage and consistency, plus it contains SPF 20! This tinted moisturizer evens out my skin tone but doesn’t get cakey like a lot of skin makeup does on me. It really gives me the perfect natural glow. When I’m not using the LM tinted moisturizer, I opt for the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation or the Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick. Both of these have higher coverage but still give me a natural look.

Concealer:

After foundation, I attack my acne, redness and dark circles with my all-time favorite concealer. On really quick days I skip the foundation and double up on this instead. I’ve been using the Bobbi Brown Skin Serum Concealer for about 5 years now. I’ve tried others but I’ve always come back to this one – it’s truly my ride or die. This concealer provides medium coverage and the perfect color. It goes on like a dream and is SO hydrating. It doesn’t dry up or flake on my dry skin, which is a plus for me.

Brows:

When it comes to eyebrows, I’ve got to admit I’m blessed. I have naturally dark brows that really only need a bit of help, so brows are a fairly easy step in my routine. I usually stick to brow gels, as they are the easiest to apply and provide the best results for the natural brow look I’m going for. I’ve been a big fan of the Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow for awhile, and although the shade range is limited, I find that the darkest shade is the perfect product for the sparse sections of my brows.

Mascara:

To finish up the eyes, I go for mascara. I personally think that mascara is the absolutely most important part of any makeup look. Mascara takes you from zombie to glam in 30 seconds and it’s truly my go-to product. I heard a beauty guru once say that you should use brown mascara for a more natural look. I’m really not sure if that’s true, but I listened, and have been on the quest for the perfect brown mascara since. My classic brown mascara is the Yves Saint Laurent Vinyl Couture Mascara in color #4. It comes in a variety of colors, from classic black to yellow, and it’s the perfect volumizing mascara. I do find that sometimes YSL will discontinue this type of mascara for awhile and then bring it back on the market randomly (weird) so I suggest stocking up if this product is something that works for you.

Highlighter:

To finish up the face, I always go for a subtle pearl-pink highlighter. I love cream hgihlither for a natural look because it really adds that natural glow without being too blinding. I love the Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight. I tried this highlighter from a Sephora VIB 500 point box and instantly fell in love with the beautiful color and creamy formula. I find that this blends seamlessly into any foundation- even powder!

Setting Spray:

Finally, I finish off my skin with setting spray. Even a simple makeup look needs to be set, especially during the summer months! I use the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray to make sure that my face stays intact all day without worry.

Lipstick:

I’ve always been very picky about my lip color. I used to just pop on a balm and go, but lately I’ve been loving a nice wash of color. I really dig the Yves Saint Laurent Volupte Tint-in-Oil, and I own this product in a variety of colors. The color payoff is nice and opaque and when the oil rubs off it leaves a nice stain of color. The consistency of the oil itself is absolutely luxurious and it’s the perfect product for winter months when chapped lips are the enemy.

So that’s it! I know it may sound like a lot of products, but trust me it’s quite simple. I hope you loved getting to know my easy-breezy makeup routine and maybe even discovered some products you want to incorporate into your own!
