Day n Night: My Skin Care Routine

Skin care has always been a huge focus of my beauty routine. I rarely wear makeup during the school year (doing my make up in the morning = less sleep) but I always take the time to care for my skin, morning and night. My skincare journey has not been easy in the slightest. I deal with hormonal and stress acne, and also VERY dry skin – a combo that is difficult to find products for. I also have extremely sensitive skin, so I have to do my research before anything touches my face. Here’s a look at my supper simple but effective skin care routine:

My Morning Routine:

My overall morning routine is rather rushed (I’ll take all the sleep I can get), so my morning skin care steps are super simple and easy. The key here is that I NEVER sleep with my makeup on, so I always wake up with fairly good-to-go skin.

Although I make sure to never hit the pillow with the night’s makeup still on, I always take a round cotton pad soaked in Garnier SkinActive Miceller Cleansing Water and cleanse my face to remove any stubborn dirt I missed the night before. My night moisturizer also sometimes leaves a bit of a peel to it, so I use this step to make sure there’s nothing left on my skin.

After a quick cleanse, I top my skin off with the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel. I found this moisturizer after I experienced my first Indiana winter and my skin had never been dryer. Even during the warm months I still use this product religiously. I always buy the extra dry skin kind as well! This product soaks into your skin well and doesn’t leave you feeling greasy, but instead your skin feels hydrated and plump.

My morning skin care routine is super simple, but at night things get a little more complicated, so here it goes:

After removing my makeup with the same miceller water as in the morning, my next step is to cleanse my face. I use an acne cleanser at night to make sure I really clear my pores out, and I’ve gone through a few bottles of this Kate Somerville Detox Daily Cleanser and have really noticed a difference in my skin. It has helped with my breakouts, redness and texture and I think you get a lot of product for the price!

I also exfoliate my face about 3 times per week in the shower. I use Lush’s Ocean Salt, a product I’ve been crushing on since high school, and it’s the best scrub I’ve ever used hands down! A lot of scrubs are not only bad for the environment (the scrubbing particles don’t break down properly) but some of them even cause micro tearing of your skin. Lush’s Ocean Salt is all natural, amazing for the face and body and smells like the beach – which are all wins in my book.

Right before I get into bed, I apply my nighttime moustiurzer. I use the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask every night and it has never let me down. I wake up feeling glowy and smooth and I think it has really helped with active breakouts and my acne scars. The jar is a bit pricey but a little goes a long way and I can use this every night and still make it last 4 months. The jar itself sits on my nightstand and the packaging is so cute that it looks like decor!

I finish out the night with an eye mask and lip mask, both from Laneige. The Lip sleeping Mask is so hydrating and creamy, it’s perfect for the winter when my lips are always chapped. The Eye Sleeping Mask is great as well.  I love the applicator on the eye serum because it ensures a clean and easy application, and the cooling wand applicator instantly helps my puffy sleep deprived eyes.

Everyone has different skin problems and must-have products, and I’m so glad to share mine with you! I hope you found some new must-haves – happy skin care hunting!
